Working in a jewellery shop is pretty handy when there are a lot of unwanted boxes lying around that I can recycle into bookshelves for my film! I then covered these boxes in mod roc to harden the whole thing. After my tutorial on the set it was suggested that I try making books out of cardboard and once painted cover them in a layer of PVA glue so that it gives them a leathery shine effect. I also thought I could add bits of string running along a few of them to give the effect of the ridges on old leather bound books.
The plan for my set has changed since reworking the storyboard. I will now have less to make than before, no miniature is required, all that I need is a bookcase, ladder, desk and chair. These pieces will be able to move around to different positions in different shots.
This basic idea for my set follows on from completing my first story board that I have pitched to my tutors and peers, having an idea of what I would need for each shot.
I've made three different mood boards for the set so I guess it's best I talk through each of them in turn: Art Direction - Library This mood board is simply imagery, colours and a tone for what I imagine the library to encompass; its art direction. Set Mood Board - Shapes I wanted to make a collection of images that contained interesting and unusual shapes in buildings, whether these be photographs, models or drawings. At this current stage I imagine the Librarian himself to be a rather warped and twisted figure so I would like the library to be inkeeping with this and contain bold and striking shapes. Set Mood Board - Texture and Style I really want the library to look like a real tactile and textured world, almost like the viewer could reach out and touch the screen and imagine feeling the world that the Librarian resides in. This is a mood board for textures that I like and will try to transfer into my set.
